So what are Superfoods?

They are foods with a highly-concentrated amount of nutrients that has health-promoting properties and is especially good for your health and well-being. Think things that are super high in antioxidants, trace minerals and other properties that are hard to find in your regular, everyday diet.

In this recipe I included some of my favorite superfoods namely Maca powder, Chia seeds and raw Cacao powder. I also added an interesting ingredient which is pure Carob syrup to give it that extra depth and sweetness.

Maca nourishes the body’s endocrine system (responsible for regulating a range of bodily functions through the release of hormones) and help us cope with stress, energizes naturally without the side effects of caffeine. It is also well known for regulating hormone balance and increasing fertility.

Raw Cacao powder is one of the world’s richest sources of antioxidants and a concentrated form of dietary fiber. It’s high in essential nutrients like magnesium, B vitamins, and iron. It also used to support heart health, lower blood pressure, improve circulation and even suppress the appetite.

Chia Seeds are a nutrient-rich seeds good sources of α-linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid), fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals like calcium, phosphorus and magnesium and they are rich in antioxidants.

Carob is naturally sweet, low in fat, high in fiber, has calcium and no caffeine. It's also an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, gluten free and is considered a healthy substitute for chocolate. The syrups are commonly used as an alternative to chocolate in health-food products.
